The sun was out for a change this morning, which helped all our spirits. We had a good breakfast prepared by the same group – cornflakes with sliced peaches, scrambled eggs & bacon & bread. We all did a good job on our bikes before we began our day’s ride – oiling & cleaning. I stopped to buy some hand knitted socks. The day was a hard push. We stopped to buy lunch at Gsteig a little village in the mountains. After lunch it was up the mountain for over an hour. It was beautiful even if it was a stiff climb to Le Col du Pillon, then one thrilling ride down a road like this into Les Diablerets. After asking many times located the Auberge de Jennessy. One woman I asked in my best French – & she replied in French – only to find she was English. It wasn’t 3 o’clock so I had a sun bath on the hillside opposite a snow-capped mountain until 4:30. The boys went down to the river for a dip – but not me. We – Harold, Linc, Florence, & I were the committee for supper. We had a tough job to find any stores & finally had to go back to Les Diablerets. It was 6 o’clock before we finished buying & while we finished Florence came back to get things started. We had Italian spaghetti & macaroni for supper. It was a good meal. Florence & I decided to do the next two days schedule in one so as to have an extra day in Geneva & so to bed.
