July 29, Saturday Uffing to Gainsisch-Garter-Kirchen(?) The most beautiful ride I have ever had around Staffel See. as calm as glass with the Austrian Alps in the background. We rode in the valley of these mountains thru Oberammaarau. We purchased our lunch there & ate it under the trees by a brook on the outskirts of the village. Then we spent about an hour and half looking around. In a back street we came upon a workshop where wood is carved to go in the back where a man was chiseling out of wood a huge Christas. Helen took a picture of him at work. Then we bought a little figure of a deer which he signed for us – he turned out to be Marcus in the passion Play. A little after three we rode on through Ettal (?) & then a marvelous coast all the way into Garmisch.
