Ruth’s Diary

July 30, Sunday, Garmisch to Fussen We got started about 8:30. It looked as if it might be another touch Sunday as we were surrounded by mountains & it was hard pushing. About 1 1/2 hours of riding & we came to a waterfall down the mountain side so Harold, “Phoebe” Linc(?), & I went wading. We had our individual lunches so there was no need of hurrying. When we started out again the sun was broiling hot. We struggled up hill finally outside of Reutte (Austria) & Harold & I picked a nice shady spot by a brook to eat. I ran into the others shortly after, but lost them again soon after so we stopped, had milk, an ice cream cone & then to the hostel. We discovered there was swimming nearby so we all went in – then back for supper. (Supper at a Gasthoof(?)).
