Helen’s Diary

Rain. Up early to see our entrance into New York-Too rainy to see much. Breakfast on board. Taxied from pier to Y.M.H. where we registered. Walked around New York-Luncheon at Child’s-Visited Planetarium, most interesting, glad Ruth is interested in going. Then back to Y. M. H. to meet Frank, our leader, who is also a teacher-very nice and friendly. A. Y. H. found us a place to stay in West New York, New Jersey-top.

Ruth’s Diary

Helen & I arose about 5 A.M. went out on deck in pajamas & coat only to find it a nasty rainy morning, so we went back to bed for another little while. Later we breakfasted in the ship’s dining room & then were out in the rain to view the New York skyline from the river. We docked about 7:30 and as it was pouring decided to wait & call the A.Y.H. Information Bureau about 9:00. At 9:00 we took a taxi down town to meet the people in charge of the AYH. Mrs. Dunham & two daughters Marian & Pat(ricia) & Margo. There were assigned a hostel for the night with the rest of the day to ourselves so we had lunch, did some window shopping & then to the Haydn planetarium in the afternoon.
